** TFC's Q1 adjusted profit declines 13.5% as its interest income shrinks on higher costs of retaining customer deposits and subdued loan demand

** Adjusted Q1 net income falls to 90 cents per share vs $1.05 per share a year ago

** Net interest income in Q1 declines 12.5% to $3.43 bln; Net interest margin contracts to 2.89% versus 3.17%, a year earlier in the quarter

** As of last close, stock down marginally YTD
