Cash Dividend Powers Alphabet Stock to Its Best Day Since 2015 -- WSJ

Dow Jones04-26

By Charley Grant

Google parent Alphabet is having its best day on the stock market since before it became Alphabet.

The stock was up nearly 11% shortly after trading opened on Friday morning, after the company announced strong first-quarter earnings and introduced a cash dividend for the first time ever.

The gain puts the shares on pace for the best one-day performance since July 2015, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Then, the stock rose more than 16%, when the company was still known by the name of the popular search engine.

Google created a holding company named Alphabet later that year in a sweeping reorganization.
