AUD/USD Could Retest 0.6400 Area Later This Year -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-26

2317 GMT - AUD/USD is at 0.6523 early on Friday and while the AUD looks supported near term, it could ratchet lower as the year progresses, suggests Westpac. Stronger-than-expected 1Q CPI data in Australia prompted a significant reassessment of when the RBA is likely to lower interest rates. Markets are now pricing a maiden cut in early 2025, later than previous bets, and that should support the AUD near term, Westpac says. "However, the Fed is faced with similar challenges to easing, core inflation proving stickier than was expected," says Westpac. "A retest of the 0.6400 area multi-month remains possible."
