Nestle Consensus at Risk After Notable Volume Miss -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-25

0909 GMT - Nestle has reported a notable miss on real internal growth--the company's measure of sales volume--after seeing a further softening of U.S. consumer demand, Jefferies analysts write. RIG was down 2.0% versus consensus looking for a 0.5% drop. Growth rates in confectionary and waters were helpful beats, but confectionary was possibly helped by Easter timing while waters could suffer after reports of more water plant closures due to contamination, they say. The company hopes to see a strong rebound in RIG in 2Q, but Visible Alpha consensus is already at over 2%, the analysts say, adding they see risk to consensus full-year sales and earnings estimates. Jefferies rates Nestle at underperform with a CHF84.50 price target. Shares fall 3.6% to CHF90.64. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
