Meta Platforms (META): The parent of Facebook and Instagram reported record first-quarter revenue late Wednesday but spooked investors with forecasts of rising costs. Share tumbled in premarket trading.

IBM $(IBM)$: The company's quarterly revenue fell short of expectations, amid a slowdown in its consulting business. IBM also announced a $6.4 billion deal to buy cloud-software company HashiCorp $(HCP)$. IBM shares slid premarket, while HashiCorp climbed in light trading.

BHP (UK: BHP, BHP) and Anglo American (UK: AAL**)**: Mining giant BHP offered to buy longtime rival Anglo American, in a potential megadeal that could reshape the industry. BHP's shares fell in London, while Anglo's shares surged.

Chipotle Mexican Grill $(CMG)$: The burrito chain said that faster service, along with reviving limited-time offerings like Chicken al Pastor in March, helped boost revenue and margins last quarter. Shares rose in off-hours trading.

Ford $(F)$: The automaker's quarterly earnings came in above expectations, as sales of big trucks to big commercial fleets offset struggles in its EV business. Shares climbed ahead of the opening bell.

Barclays PLC (UK: BARC, BCS): The British lender's first-quarter earnings topped expectations. Barclays' U.S.-listed shares climbed premarket, mirroring gains in London. Meanwhile, shares of Deutsche Bank (GER: DBK**,** DB) edged lower, despite the German lender reporting a 10% rise in quarterly profit.

Earnings are due from companies including Caterpillar $(CAT)$ and Merck $(MRK)$ ahead of the market open.

Microsoft $(MSFT)$ and Google parent Alphabet $(GOOGL)$ are set to report after the market close, along with Intel $(INTC)$ and T-Mobile $(TMUS)$.
