However, prior to this announcement, Frencken Group's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings.  This means that most of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.    Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 86.4%.   Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 19% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.     SGX:E28 Historic Dividend April 25th 2024 Dividend Volatility  While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years.      Since 2014, the dividend has gone from SGD0.014 total annually to SGD0.0228.      This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 5.0% a year over that time.     Modest growth in the dividend is good to see, but we think this is offset by historical cuts to the payments. It is hard to live on a dividend income if the company's earnings are not consistent.     Frencken Group May Find It Hard To Grow The Dividend  With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing.      However, Frencken Group's EPS was effectively flat over the past five years, which could stop the company from paying more every year.      Earnings growth is slow, but on the plus side, the dividend payout ratio is low and dividends could grow faster than earnings, if the company decides to increase its payout ratio.    In Summary  Overall, we think that Frencken Group could make a reasonable income stock, even though it did cut the dividend this year.
