Communications services companies rallied after strong earnings from Alphabet boded well for the advertising industry.

Interpublic Group Cos and other ad giants rose in sympathy.

Snap surged after the social network posted first-quarter earnings surpassing analysts' targets.

Paramount Global's board is considering replacing Chief Executive Bob Bakish and installing a committee of top executives to run the entertainment giant on an interim basis, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Charter Communications lost more internet subscribers than expected in the first quarter as the cable industry's broadband growth challenges continued.

Comcast ticked up but remained deep in the red for the week following similar warnings about broadband subscriber losses.
