** Shares of copper miners rise, tracking prices of the red metal

** Three-month copper up 0.9% at $9,950.50/metric ton on the London Metal Exchange $(LME.UK)$ , on fund buying after mining major BHP Group's $39 billion bid for Anglo American , which it rejected

** U.S.-listed shares of global mining giants Rio Tinto

up ~1% and BHP Group down 1.5%

** Copper miners Southern Copper and Freeport-McMoRan up 4.3% and ~2%, respectively

** Shares of Canadian copper miners Teck Resources

, Ero Copper , First Quantum Minerals and Hudbay Minerals all up between 1.7% and 8%
