London Stocks Seen Opening Higher -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-30

0649 GMT - The FTSE 100 is expected to open 16.9 points, or 0.2%, higher, according to IG, having closed on Monday at 8147.03, tracking gains in Asia as the U.K. benchmark stock index continues to trade close to the previous day's intraday record high of 8189.14. Solid earnings are for now outweighing concerns that the U.S. Federal Reserve could push back expectations for an interest-rate cut even further at Wednesday's rate announcement due to still-elevated inflation, says Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote, in a note. "The latest stats suggest that over 80% of the S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings so far beat expectations," she says. HSBC bank and miner Glencore are among stocks in focus after earnings updates. (jessica.fleetham@wsj.com)
