Singapore Electronics Sector Recovery Seems on Track -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-03

0206 GMT - The outlook for Singapore's electronics sector remains upbeat, UOB economists Alvin Liew and Jester Koh say in a note after PMI data showed growth in April. Favorable base effects in 2Q and 3Q, plus solid end-demand support their upbeat view on the sector. Demand for generative artificial intelligence-related applications could add a structural boost, with positive spillover into the consumer electronics segment, UOB says. The expected easing of financial conditions as central banks start lowering policy rates in the latter half of the year also bodes well for the sector, potentially boosting global investment and consumption activity, they add.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
