Dow Jones05-04

1347 ET - The number of rigs drilling for oil in the U.S. fell by 7 this week to 499 and is down by 89 from a year ago, oil services company Baker Hughes reports. It was a second consecutive weekly decline in oil rigs, while rigs directed at natural gas fell for a fifth straight week and were down by 3 at 102. Several major natural gas producers have curtailed production and drilling plans as they wait for demand to pick up. Oil futures are lower today, with WTI on track for a more than $5 weekly loss. Natural gas futures are higher and set to snap a 3-week losing streak. (anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
