The Russell 2000 Index (RTY) fell 7%, the steepest loss since a 6% decline occurred months prior. The large-cap S&P 500 (SP500) index also fell in April, but at a smaller 4.2% pace.  The small-caps slump was \"thanks to the toxic mix of higher inflation, higher rates, and pushing the Fed further to the sidelines,\" Jefferies analyst Steven DeSanctis said in his performance scorecard note Wednesday.  In April moves:   $3.1B came out of small cap ETFs last month, \"putting pressure on the size segment,\" DeSanctis said. Secular growth groups \"took it on the chin\" as the Health Care and Information Technology sectors each tumbled more than 9%. Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) has become the largest weight ever in the Russell 2000 Index (RTY), making a sizeable impact. Including the AI server maker, the index’s decline was 2.2% YTD. Excluding SMCI (SMCI), the index would be down 3.5% YTD.
