Wizz Air Holdings reported lower passenger numbers in April as its capacity was hurt by the grounded fleet affected by the mandatory Pratt & Whitney engine inspections.
The London-listed budget airline said passenger numbers in the period fell 0.3% to 4.9 million, but were up 19% on a rolling 12-month basis to 62 million.
Load factor--a measure of how full a plane is--was down to 90.3% from 90.9% the year before. The company said this was due to the earlier Easter weekend causing the seasonal rise in outbound travel to fall the month before.
Last year engine maker RTX said that about 600 to 700 engines would have to be removed for inspection as it recalled hundreds of Pratt & Whitney jet engines due to issues around the powdered metal used to make certain parts. In September Wizz Air said it expected its capacity to be hurt following the engines inspection as this would ground its aircraft.
Shares at 0717 GMT were up 6 pence, or 0.3%, at 2,206 pence.
