TikTok, owned by China's ByteDance (BDNCE), said it would tie up with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and use their technology to identify and tag AI-generated content from other platforms. \"We want to make sure that people have (the) ability to understand what is fact and what is fiction,\" Adam Presser, head of operations at TikTok, told Good Morning America in an interview. \"This is one additional step so that content that is being generated using AI on other platforms will be labeled as AI when it's posted to TikTok. The hope is that as many platforms as possible will implement this technology,\" Presser added.  The new labeling capability started rolling out today on images and videos, TikTok said, adding that it would be coming to audio-only content soon. C2PA is a project that brings together two separate efforts: the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and Project Origin. CAI was founded in 2019 by Adobe (ADBE) in collaboration with the New York Times (NYT) and Twitter (now X) to build a system to provide history for digital media and a tool for creators to claim authorship. Meanwhile, Project Origin was founded in 2019 as well, and was created by BBC, CBC Radio Canada, Microsoft (MSFT) and NYT. It focuses on tackling disinformation in digital news. TikTok will use Content Credentials, a technology from C2PA. It will allow TikTok to attach certain metadata to content that can be instantly used to recognize and label AI-generated output.  \"Over the coming months, we'll also start attaching Content Credentials to TikTok content, which will remain on content when downloaded. That means that anyone will be able to use C2PA's Verify tool to help identify (AI-generated content) that was made on TikTok and even learn when, where and how the content was made or edited. Other platforms that adopt Content Credentials will be able to automatically label it,\" TikTok said in a statement. TikTok's actions mirror those of other social media platforms such as Meta's (META) Facebook and Instagram and Alphabet's (GOOG) (GOOGL) YouTube. ChatGPT-developer OpenAI, backed by Microsoft (MSFT), two days ago announced new tools to specifically help people identify AI-generated content, including creating \"tamper-resistant watermarking\" - technology that marks digital content with invisible signals and detection classifiers marking them as made by AI.
