Netflix is taking further steps into sports and live streaming with an announcement it will be broadcasting two NFL Christmas Day games this year.

Netflix announced Wednesday it will stream the two NFL Christmas games this year, and at least one holiday game in 2025 and 2026 as a part of a new three-season deal.

"There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts," Netflix chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, said in a press release. "We're so excited that the NFL's Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix."

It's not known which teams will be playing on Christmas. The NFL is set to announce its full 2024 schedule Wednesday night.

The announcement is another step for Netflix into sports content, which has become increasingly popular. The company released the series Quarterback in 2023 and is set to release Receiver over the summer. The move also is a step to compete with other streaming services like Walt Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Fox, which announced a sports streaming bundle in February.

Live streams have become more common for Netflix. The Roast of Tom Brady streamed live on the platform on May 5, and featured several NFL stars and comedians in a live comedy special.

Shares of Netflix were up 0.9% on Wednesday.
