The Shark pickup was advertised to be able to travel up to 100 km in EV mode using a 30-kWh battery pack before needing to be recharged. The range extends to 840 km using both electric and combustion methods. The pickup truck consumes 7.5 liters of fuel per 100 km traveled. The BYD Shark zooms from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds, with the top speed limited to 160 kph (100 mph).  The Shenzhen-based company said it picked Mexico because of the rapid growth in demand for pickup trucks in the region. Of course, the United States, just to the north, is the world's largest pickup truck market, with General Motors (GM), Ford Motor (F), Toyota (TM), and Stellantis (STLA) all major players. The BYD event in Mexico occurred on the same day that President Biden formally proposed quadrupling import tariffs on Chinese cars to about 100% from the current level of 25%. While there are no Chinese-branded passenger cars to be found on dealer lots in the U.S., the concern is that trade tensions could impact the sector in many ways, including costs for raw materials. Earlier in the week, BYD Company (OTCPK:BYDDF) created buzz with stronger-than-anticipated reviews for the $12K Seagull model. \"Any car company that’s not paying attention to them as a competitor is going to be lost when they hit their market,\" warned Sam Fiorani, a vice president at AutoForecast Solutions. He said BYD's (OTCPK:BYDDF) entry into the U.S. market is inevitable. Shares of BYD Company (OTCPK:BYDDF) are up 2.77% on a year-to-date basis.
