The brokerage in a note this week also suggested investors buy so-called greenflation stocks, or equities exposed to key metals needed to make the world sustainable as economies address climate change issues.  Demand for industrial metals has contributed to a leap in prices for copper, aluminum and others. Investors also been pouring into Utilities stocks (XLU) as companies ramp up their use of AI, which requires large amounts of energy to run related data centers.  But global mining stocks over the past 12 months have underperformed energy stocks despite gains for industrials metals, SocGen said, sharing this chart to illustrate its point:   Copper prices (HG1:COM) have jumped ~20% this year. SocGen said the rally has been predominantly driven by positioning while fundamentals remain strong. Other base metals “are more attractive” currently given copper’s stretched positioning, Manish Kabra, head of US equity strategy and multi-asset strategist at Societe Generale, said. Aluminum prices on the London Metal Exchange have climbed ~13% this year, trading just under $2,700 a ton on Wednesday. Kabra also pointed out that corporate activities in the global mining sector have been rising, with M&A volume at its highest in 12 years.
