Market Chatter: Air China, Others to Help Chongqing Government Build International Aviation Hub

Air China (HKG:0753, SHA:601111) will more than double its domestic destinations from the Chinese city of Chongqing to 62 as the country plans to develop an international aviation hub in the southwestern region, Yicai Global reported Thursday.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China unveiled plans to create a world-class airport cluster in Western China in 2022, Yicai noted.

Air China was the most active airline to Chongqing in May, followed by Sichuan Airlines and HNA Aviation Group’s West Air, the report said, citing OAG, a supplier of flight data.

HNA Aviation Group’s major shareholder, Liaoning Fangda Group Industrial, inked a strategic partnership with the Chongqing government last month to help build the international aviation hub, the publication added.
