Heavy-Duty Truck Orders Strengthen During May -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-05

0910 ET - Orders for heavy-duty commercial trucks in North America rose 49% in May against a low year-ago comparison volume, says market forecaster ACT Research. The firm reports preliminary orders for 23,200 trucks in the US, Canada and Mexico last month, up 46% from April. Sales of heavy-duty trucks this year have been weak before what is expected to be a buying spree in 2025 before new regulations on engine emissions take effect in 2027 that are expected to increase truck prices. Truck orders typically weaken during 2Q because trucking companies usually pull back on ordering during the summer. ACT says some truck buyers may be getting the jump on next year's surge by ordering early. (robert.tita@wsj.com)
