The “highlight of this year,” are internal conflicts, particularly two questions surrounding the political showdown between Democrats and Republicans after American voters go to the polls in November.  “Will the elections be accepted by both sides? And what are the consequences of that?,” Dalio of Bridgewater Associates said in a video speech at the Greenwich Economic Forum in Hong Kong. “There are reasons for concern.”  Secondly, there are major differences in policies between what would be a second consecutive Biden administration and an administration run by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The latter would produce “nationalistic” types of policies and will likely offer more protections to wealthy people and corporations, Dalio said.  “The one thing that there's broad agreement on is, I would say, anti-China policies,” said Dalio, whose firm had $171.8B in discretionary assets under management as of the end of March.  “There’s a great risk of economic sanctions that would be really terrible for the world,” Dalio said, according to Bloomberg.  Dalio said international investors are worried about being penalized for investing in China, which itself is dealing with economic troubles, including an ongoing downturn in the country’s real estate market, according to a South China Morning Post report. But those risks do not outweigh the benefits of investing in China, he said.  “Diversification and investment in China is desirable,” Dalio said, according to SCMP. “Chinese assets are very attractively priced.” Chinese stocks have come off their lows earlier this year. The CSI 300 Index (SHSZ300) has picked up nearly 5% this year, and the Hang Seng Index (HSI) has risen 8%.
