Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise Amid Cooling US Inflation

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were higher Wednesday. The actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 1.4%.

US benchmark stock indexes rose after US inflation eased ahead of the June policy announcement from the Federal Reserve.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) lost 0.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) dipped 0.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 2.4%, and iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) climbed 3.2% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 2.8%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) rose 2% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2%.

Commodities

Crude rose 0.5% and United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.7%. Natural gas fell 3.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumped 4.3%.

Gold was 1.1% higher based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.8%. Silver was up 3.3% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 2.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 1.4% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was up 0.2%, and the SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained 2%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) eased 0.1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were mixed, with the latter trading higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 1%, iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) was up 0.8% and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) added 1.5%.
