U.K. Labour Manifesto Contains No Major Surprises For Utilities -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-13

1337 GMT - The U.K. Labour Party's manifesto provides little detail for utilities, although it seems supportive for energy networks and low-carbon energy generation, Citi says in a research note. On the other hand, water utilities seem likely to face more challenges, as comments in the text relate to putting failing companies under special measures, banning executive bonuses and imposing severe fines for wrongdoing, the U.S. bank says. On energy generation, the manifesto mentions it would quadruple offshore wind, double onshore wind and triple solar by 2030, along with committing to deliver new nuclear energy, Citi says. "We see no major surprises at the headline level for utilities, but details are limited at this stage," it says. (christian.moess@wsj.com)
