Exchange-Traded Funds, Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell Monday Ahead of More Economic Data

The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% higher as the markets traded mixed in Monday's premarket activity ahead of more economic data releasing later this week.

US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.1% before the start of regular trading.

The Empire State Manufacturing Index for June will be released at 8:30 am ET.

Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Patrick Harker speaks at 1 pm ET.

In premarket action, bitcoin was down by 0.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.5% higher.

Power Play:

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) slipped 0.1%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) were inactive.

Aaron's (AAN) shares were up 32% before the opening bell after the company agreed to a takeover offer from IQVentures.

Winners and Losers:

Health Care

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) retreated 0.2%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) gained nearly 1% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was inactive.

Nurix Therapeutics (NRIX) stock was up more than 16% premarket after the company said Sunday that an ongoing phase 1a/b clinical trial of its drug NX-5948 is yielding what one of its researchers called "impressive" results for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell malignant cancers such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) gained 0.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.4% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 1.2%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) gained 0.9%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 0.7%.

Autodesk (ADSK) shares were up 4% in recent Monday premarket activity after the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter, that stakeholder Starboard Value met Autodesk executives to discuss concerns over its operations and corporate governance.

Consumer

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) gained marginally by 0.04%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was up 0.4% The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) lost 0.2%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were inactive.

Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI) stock was up 3% pre-bell after JPMorgan upgraded the consumer goods retailer to overweight from neutral and raised its price target to $105 from $89.

Energy

The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was down by 0.2%.

Tenaris (TS) was up nearly 1% before Monday's opening bell after the company said it completed the third tranche and commenced the fourth tranche of its $1.20 billion share buyback program.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) retreated by 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 0.7%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 0.5% higher.

Commodities

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was flat at $78.45 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was 2.2% lower at $2.82 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) gained marginally by 0.03%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2%.

Gold futures for August retreated 0.6% to $2,335.90 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures were down 0.5% at $29.34 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) slipped 0.6%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.3% lower.
