China's postal industry saw an increase in the volume of its mail and delivery on the back of higher volume in the express delivery business, according to a Monday from the State Post Bureau.
In the first five months of 2024, the express delivery business volume rose 24.4% year over year to 65.59 billion pieces. This helped boost the postal industry's total volume of mail and delivery to 73.31 billion pieces, a rise of 21.6% from the previous year.
The postal industry's business income, excluding the direct operating income of the Postal Savings Bank, rose 11.6% to 665.64 billion yuan. A bulk of the income was contributed by the express delivery business, which notched a 16.6% rise to 537.11 billion yuan.
For the month of May alone, the postal industry delivered 16.36 billion pieces of mail, up 21.3% from the previous year. Express deliveries numbered 14.78 billion pieces, up 23.8%.
The postal industry's May revenue climbed 12.9% to 139.13 billion yuan, of which express delivery revenue was 115.99 billion yuan, which climbed 15.6%.
