North American Freight-Railroad Traffic Rises -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-20

1115 ET - North American freight-railroad traffic rises 2.8% for the week ended Saturday despite continued steep drops in coal shipments. Carloads slip 1.1% on 12 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads, while the volume of intermodal units rises 6.7%, data from the Association of American Railroads show. A 14% drop in coal carloads more than offsets double-digit gains in shipments of grain and chemicals. North American rail traffic is up 2% for the first 24 weeks of the year, AAR says.
