Hong Kong and China Gas or Towngas (HKG:0003) will launch Hong Kong's first green hydrogen project in cooperation with French water, waste, and energy company Veolia, according to a Tuesday press release by Towngas.

Veolia subsidiary Green Valley Landfill will work with Towngas to develop the SENTX landfill site that will convert biogas to green hydrogen through steam methane reforming technology, Towngas said.

Hydrogen produced by the facility will be considered green as the biogas is generated from the decomposition of organic matter in the landfill, Towngas said.

The project, set to commence operations in 2025, will generate 330 kilograms of hydrogen daily.

Shares in Towngas rose 1% in Hong Kong on Wednesday afternoon.
