Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were higher. The actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.6%.

US equity indexes rose, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq making new record highs, and government bond yields jumped after midday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.2% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 1.1% and iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dipped 0.5% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 0.8%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) rose 1.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 1.2%.

Commodities

Crude rose 1.7% and United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 1.5%. Natural gas fell 3.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumped 3.5%.

Gold was 0.8% lower based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.7%. Silver was down 0.4% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped 1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 1.1% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were up 0.9% each.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) eased 0.1% and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.8%, iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) was up 0.5% and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) added 0.6%.
