DermTech said on Tuesday that it filed for bankruptcy protection and that it will conduct a process to sell substantially all of its assets.
The dermatology company said it has filed for voluntary chapter 11 protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and fired 15 employees to reduce costs, representing 20% of the workforce.
The group added it will potentially lay off more staff in the future.
"Through the bankruptcy process, the company intends to safeguard the interest of stakeholders and maximize the value of its assets," it said.
The group expects to continue its laboratory operations and processing orders for the DermTech Melanoma Test while simultaneously conducting the sale of its assets.
