Longer routes around Africa have also delayed humanitarian relief for Sudan and Yemen by weeks, costing aid organizations more. Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea late last year in retaliation to Israel's war in Gaza, affecting at least 65 countries' interests. Around 29 major energy and shipping companies - including BP (BP), Shell (SHEL) and Euronav (EURN) - were forced to alter their routes.
