Exchange-Traded Funds, Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell Amid Uncertainty Ahead of Key Inflation Data

The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) slipped 0.1% in Monday's premarket activity, as markets traded mixed amid uncertainty about inflation data due this week.

US stock futures were also mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures slipping 0.1% before the start of regular trading.

The Dallas Fed Manufacturing Survey for June will be released at 10:30 am ET, while San Francisco Federal Reserve President Mary Daly speaks at 2 pm ET.

In premarket action, bitcoin was down by 4.7% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 5.3% lower.

Power Play:

Health Care

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) advanced 0.5%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) increased 0.9% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) added 0.5%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 1.5% higher.

Alimera Sciences (ALIM) shares were up more than 76% premarket after ANI Pharmaceuticals (ANIP) said it has signed an agreement to acquire Alimera for $5.50 per share in cash and one contingent value right worth up to $0.50 per share, contingent on certain revenue targets in 2026 and 2027 in a deal valuing Alimera at about $381 million.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.6%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.3% down and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was 0.7% lower. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) gained 0.1%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) declined 0.3%.

Ault Disruptive Technologies (ADRT) stock rose more than 20% in recent Monday premarket activity after the company said it is acquiring Gresham Worldwide to merge the electronics manufacturer with an Ault unit, forming a new entity trading under "GWWI," aiming to support growth and market visibility in defense and healthcare sectors.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) advanced 0.4% and the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) gained 1.2%, while the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was inactive.

RXO (RXO) shares gained more than 10% before the opening bell after United Parcel Service (UPS) agreed to sell its freight brokerage business unit, Coyote Logistics, to RXO for about $1.03 billion in cash. UPS was advancing 1% in recent premarket activity.

Energy

The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was up by 0.6%.

NexGen Energy (NXE) shares were 1.5% higher before Monday's opening bell after the company said that the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission completed its 30-day review of NexGen's responses to the remaining 49 technical review comments and the revised Federal Environmental Impact Statement for the Rook I Project.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 1%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 0.9% lower.

Prudential (PUK) stock was up more than 6% pre-bell after the company said Sunday it has launched a $2 billion share buyback program and is starting the first $700 million tranche.

Consumer

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was down 1.2%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was up 0.1%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) gained 0.3%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were inactive.

Envela's (ELA) shares traded up 3.8% pre-bell Monday following the announcement of the opening of its largest Four Nines store in Phoenix, Arizona.

Commodities

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 0.4% at $81.03 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was 0.5% higher at $2.72 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.6%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 0.2%.

Gold futures for August were up 0.4% to $2,339.80 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures advanced 0.3% to $30.02 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.2%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.2% higher.
