FedEx Cost Reduction Efforts, Freight Spin Off Could Support Stock -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-26 23:55

1154 ET - FedEx spinning out its freight business could unlock meaningful value, say analysts at UBS in a research note. The delivery company on Tuesday said management and the board are conducting an assessment of the role of FedEx Freight in its portfolio and potential steps to further unlock shareholder value. The analysts note that a spin out of less-than-truckload business could unlock value, particularly when considering the much higher valuation of other leading non-union LTL companies including Old Dominion Freight Line, Saia and XPO Logistics. They add that FedEx's cost reduction efforts and delivery of improving overall margins supports upside for FedEx's stock while the potential spin of its freight business provides a path for a further step up; their analysis points to potential upside to $387 for FedEx if there's a spin-out.
