** Shares of gold miners fall, tracking prices of the bullion

** Spot gold down 1.3% to $2,358.61/ounce, hurt by a risk-on rally in equities and profit-taking by investors after a sharp rally in the previous session over expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve could cut interest rates in September

** Top miners Newmont and Barrick Gold each fall 1.4%

** U.S.-listed shares of South African miners Sibanye Stillwater , Harmony Gold , Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti drop between 1.1% and 3.1%

** Canadian miner Franco-Nevada falls 1.5%
