Eastern Bankshares has hired David Rosato as the next chief financial officer of the bank holding company, which has wrapped up its merger with Cambridge Bancorp.

Eastern on Monday said Rosato, who most recently served as senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of Berkshire Hills Bancorp, joins on Aug. 1 and succeeds James Fitzgerald, who will remain with the Boston company in a senior advisory role.

Eastern said Rosato will receive an annual base salary of $550,000 and an annual bonus with a target of 65% of his base pay.

Berkshire Hills in May announced the planned departure of Rosato, who had been finance chief since February 2023.
