After four months I received a letter stating my card and chip were used for "one or some" of the transactions. The transactions showed in my account under United.com and a sports bar I've never been to in a city I've never even visited. So I contacted the United Airlines helpdesk and they do not have any record of these transactions.
Aside from wasting my breath with the Bank of America fraud department, which I've done multiple times, what can I do? I almost NEVER use my debit card for this exact reason. Thankfully, it was my account for personal spending -- this is why my husband and I keep our personal and business accounts separate!
I always check the card machine at the gas pump for anything that could be a security breach and I never use debit on them because I prefer to utilize credit-card rewards. I don't know how my card or chip could have been present at the time of the withdrawals. At the time, I only had one family member in the state and they did not have access to the card.
Is there some agency to assist with this? What do other people do when this happens?
