Tesla Says Timeline Unclear on Robotaxi -- WSJ

Tesla says it's unclear when it will be able to roll out its self-driving taxis.

The company said with its second-quarter results that deployment of the Robotaxi, a self-driving electric model expected to have no steering wheel or pedals, depends on technological advancements and getting the nod from regulators.

The company is "working vigorously" on the program because of its "outsized potential value," Tesla said.

Tesla is set to unveil the Robotaxi in October after years of talking up the program. Chief Executive Elon Musk has compared the plans for a dedicated ride-hailing network to Airbnb, with Tesla owners deploying their own vehicles for use by others.

Shares of Tesla slid more than 2% in extended-hours trading after the EV maker reported per-share earnings for the second quarter that fell short of analysts estimates.
