Will New And Old 'Call of Duty' Games Help Microsoft Gain Subscribers? -- Market Talk

Dow Jones07-24

1130 ET - Microsoft says last year's "Call of Duty" game comes to Game Pass today, marking the first time the Activision-made franchise has appeared on the subscription service. The addition comes after Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision in October, giving the software giant control over "Call of Duty," one of the game industry's longest-running and best-selling series. Microsoft is also planning to bring the next new installment of "Call of Duty" to Game Pass, when it launches in the fall. A major question for the company is whether the arrival of the franchise on the service will encourage more people to sign up for it. Earlier this month Microsoft announced price increases for Game Pass. (sarah.needleman@wsj.com)
