Wall Street, on average, expects the Chicago-based company to post a quarterly EPS of $3.07 (-3.2% Y/Y) along with a revenue of $6.63B (+2.0% Y/Y). Restaurant stocks have remained on the back foot, with investors and analysts expecting that a recovery in earnings is likely to remain slow as consumers continue to hold back on discretionary spending. Recently, Gordon Haskett cut its price target on McDonald's due to a softer-than-anticipated initial customer response to the chain's $5 Meal Deal. Analyst Jeffrey Farmer highlighted that McDonald's (MCD) will see a 0.5% decline in U.S. comparable sales for Q2 this year without the Grimace boost. Similarly, Morgan Stanley expected the company to give “downbeat” results, trimming their bottom-line forecasts by 2-3% and Q2 comparable sales.  Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Harbour believes that as McDonald’s reputation for value diminishes, a $5 meal “should be part of a permanent value strategy to cater to a key customer cohort that has pulled back.” In its previous quarterly earnings, MCD reported that global comparable sales were up 1.9%, compared to +2.3% consensus. Meanwhile, consolidated operating income increased 8% during the quarter.  Over the last two years, MCD has beaten EPS estimates 88% of the time and has beaten revenue estimates 75% of the time. Over the last three months, EPS estimates have seen one upward revision and 25 downward revisions. Revenue estimates have seen zero upward revisions and 22 downward revisions.
