AUD/USD's Short-Lived Rise to Recent High Likely a False Breakout, Chart Shows -- Market Talk

Dow Jones07-25

0702 GMT - AUD/USD's short-lived rise to the recent high of 0.6798 is likely a false breakout, based on the weekly chart, says Quek Ser Leang, markets strategist at UOB's Global Economics & Markets Research. The currency pair's initially tentative pullback gathered momentum swiftly over the last several sessions, with AUD/USD plummeting below 0.6600 on Wednesday, the strategist says in a research report. Although the currency pair's decline may persist, it's uncertain whether support on its ascending weekly trendline, which is currently at 0.6410, will come under threat over next 1-2 months, the strategist adds. AUD/USD is down 0.6% at 0.6543. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
