Regional Sports Network Deals Could Cut Into NBA Revenue Boost -- Market Talk

Dow Jones08-14

1426 ET - The NBA's landmark media-rights deals will increase teams' revenues, as well as the number of live-game telecasts available to national media partners. But those higher top-line numbers could be hurt by the corresponding reduction in the number of exclusive telecasts made available to regional sports networks. MSG Sports's agreement with local media rights partner, MSG Networks, includes thresholds around the number of live games telecast provided to the network each season. "If certain thresholds are not met as a result of the new NBA national deals, our local rights agreements would provide for a reduction in local media rights fees, and this would partially offset the increase in the national media rights revenue," CFO Victoria Mink says on a call with analysts Tuesday.
