Looks Like Forward Air Now Has An Activist Investor -- Market Talk

Dow Jones08-15

1010 ET - Forward Air's second-largest investor has gone activist. Private-equity firm Clearlake Capital, which in May disclosed that it had built a nearly 14% stake in Forward Air, now says it may look to hold talks with the trucking company on a review of strategic alternatives and opportunities to increase shareholder value, among other matters. Clearlake flips its Forward Air SEC filing from a 13G, reserved for passive investors, to a 13D, often used by activist investors whose plans include pushing for a merger or otherwise seeking to control a company. Activist investor Irenic Capital Management last month called on Forward Air's board to consider a range of options, including a sale. Forward Air is up 5.6% in early trading.
