The final results were published Friday, the same day Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said policymakers are preparing to cut interest rates from 5.25%-5.5%. The S&P 500 (SP500) advanced Friday, putting the index up 1.4% for the week.  Out of 1,440 responses, 41.1% of respondents put the benchmark (SP500) at 5,800 for the year-end. That level implies 2.9% upside from Friday’s close at 5,634.61. At a 9% rate, respondents foresee the S&P 500 (SP500) at 6,000 when 2024 wraps up, implying a 6.5% rise from Friday. There were 32.2% of investors who projected a 5,600 level at the year-end, not far off from where the benchmark (SP500) landed Friday when it jumped 1.2% on Powell's pledge to begin rate cuts.  The survey also showed ~17% of investors projecting a pullback in the index, with some in that group seeing a drop to 5,000, which would be a ~11% slide from Friday. Analysts have said the market is currently in or is entering into the most volatile (VIX) period of the year, with hurdles including the November U.S. presidential election and economic data that will shape how the Fed proceeds to cut interest rates.  The July jobs report jolting recession fears was key in pulling the S&P 500 (SP500) from its all-time closing high of 5,667 notched in mid-July. But after the S&P 500 (SP500) fell +8% from its high, stocks mounted a recovery, leaving the market's benchmark standing 0.6% below its peak as of Friday.
