Sovereign Metals (ASX:SVM) started a hydraulic mining trial at its Kasiya rutile-graphite project in Malawi as part of its pilot mining and land rehabilitation program, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian Securities Exchange.
The hydraulic mining trial, part of the Kasiya optimization study, aims to enhance previous testwork and is expected to take three months to complete, the filing said. Work includes backfilling of the main trial pit, deposition, and rehabilitation testwork.
Additionally, Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) elected to increase its shareholding in the company to 19.9% by investing an additional AU$700,000, according to the filing.
