Stanmore Resources (ASX:SMR) has secured funding from the Queensland Government under the Low Emissions Investment Partnerships program to support the development of a 20-megawatt gas-to-electricity power station at its South Walker Creek coal mine, according to a Monday filing with the Australian Securities Exchange.
The project aims to capture and utilize coal seam gas that would otherwise be released as fugitive emissions. This gas will be repurposed to generate electricity, providing a sustainable and long-term power source for the mine's operations.
Additionally, the company plans to establish joint venture agreements for gas extraction and power plant construction and ongoing operation.
Construction is set to be completed by 2027, with commercial-scale coal seam gas drainage and electricity generation expected for at least 15 years.
