China Banks' Retail Loan Books Likely to Remain Under Pressure -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-04

0815 GMT - The retail books of China's five biggest banks will likely remain under pressure in 2H, CreditSights analysts write in a report. Weaker demand amid softer consumer sentiment and higher asset quality risks will weigh on banks, which mostly expect their retail NPLs to continue rising in 2H, they say. Banks' average NPL ratio rose 15 bps year to date, with almost all retail segments seeing higher NPL ratios, CreditSights notes. Given soft operating results, the challenging macroeconomic outlook and tight trading levels, CreditSights maintains its underperform recommendations on the big five banks.
