Competition in China's Auto Market Will Continue -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-03

0535 GMT - Fierce competition in China's auto market will likely continue as automakers push ahead on large-size models instead of eye-catching new models, Nomura analysts write in a note. Chinese automakers are racing to upgrade their autonomous driving features and adapt higher levels of assisted driving functions in their models, Nomura says, adding that more players will switch to hybrid models in the future to cater to consumer demand. Accordingly, the current competition in China's auto market is set to become even more intense, the analysts add. Nomura maintains BYD as it top pick as the company remains on track to break its monthly record of selling more than 400,000 units ahead. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
