PM ImagesIn week 184, the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio declined in value for the second time over the past 12 weeks. We're heading into a CPI report, a Fed meeting, and are currently in the middle of an election cycle. Portfolios can't finish higher each week indefinitely, and I am expecting volatility until the uncertainty passes. Despite a -2% decline in my overall profitability, dividend income is generated around the clock, and I am very happy buying into weakness. I am a long-term investor, and just as I did during the start of the Ukraine war, I plan on adding to my portfolio each week no matter what the market is doing. By the time this article is published the September Fed meeting will be less than a week away, and CME Group has the chances of a rate cut being 100%. I am looking forward to seeing what the CPI print says and what the Fed does next week. Ultimately, I think the market ends higher this year despite potential volatility from the uncertainty around the election cycle. I think there are many opportunities within the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio, and I look forward to continuing to add to my positions as the rest of the year unfolds. It finally happened, and the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio closed lower after gaining $942.36 in profitability after the last negative week. After allocating $18,400 to the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio, the account balance finished week 184 at $22,182.22. This is an ROI of 20.56% on invested capital, as the portfolio is in the black by $3,782.22. I added a new position to the portfolio this week, as I am now an official shareholder of Ford (F). I also added to the PIMCO Dynamic Income Fund (PDI) once again. In week 184, I generated $46.89 in dividend income. The combination of reinvesting the generated income and making these investments increased my forward projected annualized dividend income by $12.28 (0.73%) to $1,706.01. I am now generating over $1,700 of forward dividend income, and with 3½ months left in 2024, I think it's possible to finish the year generating more than $1,850 in forward dividend income. With rate cuts on the way, I think that there will be several catalysts that take the portfolio higher, and I am looking forward to capitalizing on future opportunities. The portfolio declined by -2% WoW, and I am fine with it. I am a long-term investor, and my strategy has been to build a diversified portfolio that can generate recurring income on a continuous basis while mitigating downside risk. The S&P 500 declined by -3.51% this week, while the Nasdaq fell -4.64%. It wasn't a good week for the markets, but it ended up being a good test of my strategy. Ultimately I am happy that everything is working the way I envisioned it, and will continue building out the portfolio as the week's progress. Some investors utilize dividends to supplement their income and live off of them. I'm building a dividend portfolio for myself 30 years into the future. In 2022, I collected $507.80 in dividend income from 533 dividends. In 2023, I collected $978.11 in dividend income from 660 dividends. After 36 weeks in 2024, I have collected $1,032.53 from 486 dividends. This is 105.78% of the total dividend income generated in 2023 from 73.64% of the dividends produced. September is off to a strong start, and I have already generated $46.89 in the first week. This brought my weekly average income during 2024 to $28.68, which is 69.56% ($11.77) higher than 2023's weekly average. With 15 weeks left in 2024, I think it's entirely possible to have a weekly average income that exceeds $30. I think I am going to start tracking the quarterly income in a new chart because, as I look at the charts below, I am starting to wonder how the quarterly income growth is progressing. Based on the prior months, I am not sure if I will get to $150, but I think it's going to be close. When I look at the chart below, I see significant YoY growth, and when I think about what this can compound into, I get excited. The goals have grown as I continued this series and the next monthly goal will be to generate $150 on a monthly basis. In January, I generated $125.87, in April, I generated $142.46, and in July, I produced $158.06 of dividend income. I think that the trend indicates that this is a goal that could be achieved in 2025. I added to my position in PDI, which helped increase the income these new shares generate to $132.41. ETFs have finally retraced under 19%, but that could be short-lived if we get a good CPI report and the market bounces back from last week's decline. With rate cuts probably starting next week I wouldn't be surprised if REITs, CEFs, and BDCs jump on the news. Over the next several weeks, I am expecting that the sector percentages will jump around a bit, but I am still working on getting everything to even out a bit more. Individual equities now represent 39.27% of the Dividend Harvesting portfolio while generating 27.20% of the dividend income. REITs, ETFs, CEFs, and BDCs make up 60.73% of the portfolio and generate 72.80% of the forward income. I am working on getting individual equities to represent more of the portfolio. The long-term goal is to have the sectors be close to equal weight, but that may not happen for 5-10 years at this rate, if ever. I still think it's undervalued, and I could see a situation where shares run to $60 at some point. Despite flirting with my 5% threshold, I will not be selling the position, and I will continue adding capital to other areas of the portfolio. I still want to add more to Altria and also British American Tobacco (BTI) as I believe they both represent an interesting value opportunity. PDI made it back on the top-10 list and knocked off the JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPQ). I am expecting the list to change a bit by the end of the year, and it will be interesting to see how things progress. My allocation to the top 10 positions is $5,289.01, and they finished the week with a value of $6,886.99. This is an ROI of $1,597.98 (30.21%). There has been $719.13 of dividends generated and reinvested, which is 13.60% of the initial investment into these positions. I am now projecting that $525.32 of dividend income will be generated from the top 10 holdings, which have a forward yield of 9.93%. These positions represent 31.05% of the portfolio, while their forward dividend income is projected to generate 30.75% of the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio's annualized income.   Steven Fiorillo, Seeking AlphaWeek 183 Additions In week 183 I added Ford to the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio while increasing my position in PDI. Ford  Ford has been a company I wanted to add for some time and with shares declining and the yield crossing over the 7% threshold I was happy to start a position in Ford. With rates cuts coming I think that car sales will increase in 2025 which should be good for Ford. I believe that Ford will be able to refinance debt and lower their borrowing costs which should expand their margins a bit. I think that Ford could be a good long-term play for capital appreciation and dividend income.  PIMCO Dynamic Income Fund  I have been adding to PDI heading into rate cuts because I think that corporate debt will appreciate in value as rates decline. PDI still has a yield that exceeds 13% and I believe this is a good long-term opportunity. As rates fall over the next several years discounted corporate and government bonds will become more desirable until their yields are more in-line with newly issued debt and this is an opportunity to invest in well managed corporate and government debt funds in my opinion.  Week 185 Game Plan There is one more week until rate cuts, and I am looking at REITs and debt funds. I may add to Ford again, PDI, Realty Income, or Enbridge (ENB) in week 185. Conclusion  Nothing continues to go up indefinitely, and even the best companies, such as Apple (AAPL), retrace from time to time. I have continued to say that we shouldn't get used to the Dividend Harvesting Portfolio gaining each week because the market will eventually retrace, and the account value will decline. What I am happy about is that my level of diversification mitigated my downside risk as the portfolio lost -2% on the week while the S&P 500 retraced by -3.51%. This was a perfect example of why I built the portfolio this way, and the dividend income continued to roll in. While I think we will see a bump from the Fed meeting and then some further uncertainty heading into the election, I believe the markets will end the year higher than they are today. I am looking forward to building out the dividend snowball, and an estimated $4.67 is being generated on a daily basis. Please leave all of your comments and suggestions below.
