Market Chatter: Nippon Steel Vice Chair Flies to Washington for Final Push on US Steel Deal

MT Newswires Live09-11

Nippon Steel Vice Chair Takahiro Mori will meet with senior US officials on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. to make a last-second push to salvage his company's proposed acquisition of US Steel (X), which is opposed by President Joe Biden and Vice President and presidential nominee Kamala Harris, the Financial Times reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the situation.

Mori will reportedly meet with several deputy cabinet secretaries involved with the Committee on Foreign Investment, the Treasury-led interagency panel that evaluates investment deals for national security risks, the people reportedly told the FT.

Neither Nippon Steel nor US Steel immediately responded to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
