Tesla (TSLA) supplier Panasonic Energy said Monday it has finalized preparations for the mass production of the 4680 cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries at its Wakayama factory.
The 4680 cells offer five times the capacity of the conventional 2170 cells.
Panasonic Energy said the 4680-cell batteries will extend the driving range of EVs while reducing the number of cells needed for the same battery pack capacity.
