Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Trend Higher After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 1.4%.

US equity indexes rose after midday on Monday, led by financials and industrials, recovering from declines in the previous week.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 1.4% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added 1.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) climbed 1.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were rising.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 2.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 1.8% higher.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 5.9% higher and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 5.8%.

Commodities

Crude was up 1.6%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 0.9%. Natural gas dropped 3.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) retreated 3.6%.

Gold added 0.3% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.2%. Silver was 1.6% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) edged upward.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.9%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) advanced 1.8%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.9%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 1.8%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 1.9%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
