Designer Brands Growth in Athletic, Athleisure Crimped by Seasonal, Dress Exposure -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-11

1115 ET - Designer Brands is updating its stylebook. The owner of the DSW store chain says its top eight brands in 2Q, all in the athletic and athleisure categories, continued to grow. But results were pressured by its exposure to dress and seasonal items, which contributed to an overall sales decline. "We remain committed to reducing our reliance on these categories," says CEO Doug Howe. Shares tumble 12% to $5.08, after a 2Q earnings miss and lowered outlook.(denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
